Snake Arena – seriously fun new slot from Relax Gaming

Snake Arena from Relax Gaming is one fantastic new slot!

Relax’s Head of Gaming, Daniel Jonsson, told us in October this was a game to watch – and boy was he right!

Snake Arena is up now on Casumo. After reading this review, just login or create a new account and enjoy this seriously cool new game.

Snake Arena

What you need to know about Snake Arena

Relax Gaming’s latest slot begins with an introduction showing toy-like knights tossing hams to a giant snake kept in chains. The snake then escapes, and all hell breaks loose!

It is an unconventional story line for a slot, and only the first of a lot of unconventional twists during this game.

CasumoThe layout is 5 reels with 5 rows (the edges of a 6th row can be seen at the top of the grid, but never comes into play other than showing players the symbols they just missed out on).

Low symbols are coins (bronze, silver, and gold). High symbols are foaming mugs of beer, goblets with what appears to be a green snake-eye inside them, crowns, and a ham with a sword stuck into it. Is this the first time a ham has been used as a slot symbol?! We are not sure, but we like it.

Winning matches are made from the left when contiguous matching symbols line up on three reels or more. The paylines have some unusual shapes, but it is all pretty easy to follow.

Snake and a Knight symbols perform as both wilds and scatters. When just a Knight or just a Snake appear, these symbols act as simple wilds.

On random spins there is a Wild Chase. During this phase the Snake appears at the top of one reel and the Knight at the bottom of one reel. If they land on the same reel, the Snake chases the knight and leaves a reel-high Wild behind him. Once the chase is over, the spin concludes and the Wild Reels are calculated into a win for the players.

The free spins game triggers when both the Snake and the Knight appear together naturally on a spin. When that happens, hang onto your hats!

How the Free Spins game works – this is different

Remember the game Snake that was a key part of most mobile phone experiences about twenty years ago? If you do, you will find the Free Spins game familiar.

At the start of the Free Spins, the Snake is only two tiles long, and he slithers across the screen to wherever the Knight landed and eats him. As he eats the Knight he grows one tile longer. In addition to making the Snake grow longer, eating the Knight generates another free spin, which produces another Knight randomly somewhere on the reels.

The Knight and the segments of the Snake act as Wilds, so the longer this keeps up the more Wilds are on the board  and the wins get bigger.

Like the Nokia Snake game, the Snake dies if he tries to cross its own body. The Snake always takes the shortest route to the Knight, and as long as that can be done without running into itself, no problem. If the position of a new Knight leads the Snake to double up on itself, game over!

What does this mean? Three things: (1) there is no set number of free spins – they continue until the Snake dies, (2) the position of the Knight following each free spin is really important – players will want the Knight to land somewhere that the Snake can access him easily, (3) this is one of the best Free Spins games to be found anywhere!

Why we love Snake Arena

Everything about this new slot is quirky, unexpected, and fun. The toy-like graphics Relax designed are fantastic, but not what anyone would expect in a game featuring a giant deadly snake!

The mechanics are genuinely innovative, while also easy for players to understand. The Free Spins game is also really intriguing, as there is real tension in the moment when the Knight lands and, as a player, you are trying to figure out if it is a good position.

Basically, there is a lot of entertainment value here with enough variation to keep even the most experienced slot lover intrigued.
