In a recent interview with Casinos We Love, a game designer from another company said he got inspiration for new game ideas by playing video games. There can be little doubt that the designers at Yggdrasil had similar inspiration for their latest game Lilith’s Inferno.
More than perhaps any other recent slot, Lilith’s Inferno invites the player to join a quest – a quest that includes finishing different rounds by beating a “boss!” If the last time you defeated a boss was playing a game that required quarters to play, you will not be alone.
Lilith’s Inferno – the basic facts
Lilith’s Inferno is a five reel, four line slot with 25 paylines. There is a maximum win of 3968x, a return to player ratio of 96.4% and this game is designed to work equally well on desktops and
gameboys handheld mobile devices.
The main objective of gameplay is for players to get Lilith to defeat four gatekeepers, each of which has “unearthly wins.”
To get to the freespin mode, where the real action happens, players must get three Gorilla scatter symbols. When we say “Gorilla,” we mean a chrome and purple beastie that looks a bit like a cylon from Battlestar Galactica.
To get to battle a boss, two VS symbols are needed during the free spins round – this is known as the Hero Bonus™. If one of the four bosses is defeated, all of its relevant symbols are converted to wilds for the remaining free spins. Defeat all four bosses and all high-paying symbols are converted to wilds (which ends up in some pretty big wins).
Who is Lilith anyway?
According to ancient legends, Lilith was the first wife of Adam (as in from the Bible). Things did not go well between the couple and after being pushed out for wife number two (Eve), Lilith became a wandering, sexually-charged demon who stole babies.
The character of Lilith in Lilith’s Inferno is a more cute and cuddly version of this demonic character. She fights demons and helps players win big.
This sort of character would work well in a traditional video game where there is space for more character development. In a slot it is not terribly clear to a player what is going on. Why is Lilith attacking these bosses? What does it have to with gorillas?
Yggdrasil have clearly taken a creative risk with this game, introducing a theme that will not be familiar to many players. Is this better than simply creating yet another Ancient Egypt-themed slot? We applaud the creativity, but Lilith’s Inferno is a good demonstration of why slots work best when they have an easily understood theme.
For dedicated slot lovers who want to savour the thrill of discovery while they spin, figuring out the game’s fictional universe and its rules as they go, this slot is perfect! Not everyone wants another Ancient Egypt slot, after all.
What Yggdrasil say
Lilith’s Inferno is the third “YGS Masters” slot released by Yggdrasil this year. These titles feature work by smaller independent studios, and include the highly successful and innovative Nikola Tesla’s Incredible Machine game.
In a statement, Stuart McCarthy, Head of Studio Partnerships at Yggdrasil, said, “Lilith’s Inferno is a dynamic and riveting addition to our YGS Masters portfolio.
“With its red-hot theme and incredible animation, it offers players a different experience to previous YGS releases Niagara Falls and Nikola Tesla’s Incredible Machine. From the outset of the YGS initiative we’ve always strived to give players as much choice as possible, and there is plenty more to come!”
