Slots are fun, but not all slots are funny. Esqueleto Explosivo 2 from Thunderkick is both exceptionally fun and exceptionally funny. This is a game not to be missed!
Esqueleto Explosivo 2 – what you need to know!
Is it possible to call a sequel highly original? If so, that is exactly how we would describe Thunderkick’s latest game.
The original Esqueleto Explosivo was released six years ago and was one of Thunderkick’s first games. The update follows the same zany format, but with new symbols and a superb Free Spins game.
Esqueleto Explosivo 2 has a five reel, three row format – except it is not really accurate to refer to reels here. The game screen opens with five skeletons sat at a café with mariachi instruments in their laps. With each “spin” a stack of Mexican Day-of-the-Dead-style skulls tumble down onto their necks.
The skulls come in different colours: pink, orange, blue, green, blue green, and a purplish female skull with blonde hair and earrings (the latter is a new symbol for this second edition). Wins are made when three or more skulls of the same colour land on a payline starting from the left.
When skulls do match, the real hilarity begins. Each payline of skulls sings a line of a mariachi song one by one. Spins with enough wins can produce an entire song!
The winning skulls then explode in clouds of confetti, and new skulls tumble down from above to take their place. At the feet of the skeletons are multipliers, starting with 1x. After every win from a spin the multiplier goes up (to 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, and 32x). Like the Megaways mechanic, the spin keeps going until there are no more wins, and then resets to 1x for the next spin.
Wait! There is more! A golden skeleton with quaffed hair and oversized sunglasses acts as a Wild. If a Wild lands and fails to make a match, it explodes anyway, taking a ring of skulls around it out in the process. Exploding Wilds always keep the spin going, and advance the multiplier up a level as well.
Of course, there are Scatters – metallic skulls with glowing eyes. These are sturdier than the other skulls they cannot be destroyed by exploding Wilds. Three or more launches the Free Spins game.
Free Spins Game explained
The Free Spins game follows a similar format to the base game, but the multipliers at the feet of the skeletons work slightly differently.
Every time a Wild explodes, counters underneath the multipliers light up. When the count reaches 3, the lowest multiplier is removed from the game and an additional Free Spin is awarded. When the 1x multiplier is removed, the next spin starts with a multiplier of 2x.
A special 64x multiplier is also introduced, but it is initially covered in padlocks which disappear one by one as the lower multipliers are taken away.
Additional extra Free Spins are awarded with 2 or more Scatters.
Why we love Esqueleto Explosivo 2
Where to start?! Most slots are entertaining, but Esqueleto Explosivo 2 is laugh out loud funny.
The original Esqueleto Explosivo format from six years ago remains highly original and stands the test of time. The addition of a bonus game is a great touch, but this is a rare slot that is as much fun to play in the base game as it is with Free Spins.
The overall design is captivating, and the music and sound effects are a perfect match for the zany graphics and animation.
Okay, we are really gushing here. But just check out our test play video (see below) and you will quickly see why we are such fans of this game!
