Coywolf Cash – dominate the food-chain with this new Play’n Go slot

Play’n Go brings an apex predator to slots with its latest release, Coywolf Cash!

What is a “coywolf?” We had to look it up. It is a cross between a coyote and a wolf – which is a real thing – and they are pretty fearsome creatures.

Coywolf Cash is set for release on 30 January. One of the very first casinos it will appear on is likely to be Casumo. Just login or sign up for a new account and get ready to climb to the top of the food chain!

Coywolf Cash – what you need to know

This is a VERY HIGH volatility slot (10 out of 10). There is a conventional five reel, three row layout with an impressive 50 paylines. The average return to player is a solid 96.3%.

Low symbols are card values (10, J, Q, K and A). If we had to quibble with this slot, the low symbols are all the same colour and can be hard to tell apart.

High symbols are all animals from the American West – bears, foxes, hawks, bobcats, and mountain lions.

The Wild symbol is a Coywolf, and it is easy to spot because it says WILD at its base. It operates like a normal wild, and can appear as Stacked Wilds on Reels 2-4.

There are two additional symbols which look very similar but, confusingly, play very different roles.

One is called the Alpha Coywolf. This symbol looks like a blue, wooden carving of a coywolf and looks really nightmarish. It only appears on Reel 3, and triggers the Wild Reel feature (more on that below).

There are also Totem Scatters, which again are blue in colour and show a carved coywolf. They are not nearly as terrifying looking as the Alpha Coywolf symbols, but at a glance it is hard to tell the two apart. Three or more Scatters triggers the unusually named “Prey Spins” bonus game.

Wild Reel feature explained

The Wild Reel feature is triggered by an Alpha Coywolf symbol landing anywhere on Reel 3. When he does he snarls, rises to the top of the reels, cracks in half, and expands into a special Wild Reel (whew!).

The Wild Reel spins horizontally, and will place either a red cross or an Alpha Coywolf symbol above each reel. The reels with Alpha Coywolfs above them then transform into Stacked Wild Reels, and the winning amount is totalled up. There is no respin – the win depends on the symbols already in place.

Prey Spins – how they work

Once a player lands 3 or more Totem Scatters, the Prey Spins bonus game is triggered. Three Totem Scatters results in 8 Prey Spins.

Prey Spins operate virtually identically to the base game. The major difference is the Wild Reel, which is triggered in the same way by an Alpha Coywolf, can result in much bigger wins.

If a Wild Reel is triggered, it has a slightly different format. The space above Reel 5 has a bracket, and the symbol landing inside this bracket can award additional Prey Spins.

During our testing, we had wildly different results with Prey Spins. In one session, the Alpha Coywolf failed to land during any of the 8 Prey Spins. The game finished almost as soon as it began, and there were no wins at all during any of the 8 spins.

During another, the Alpha Coywolf landed twice, 4 additional Prey Spins were awarded, and at one point the screen was full of Wilds resulting in a £450 win!

Remember, this is a VERY HIGH VOLATILITY slot – rated 10 out of 10 . Be prepared!

Unfortunately, it was the short Prey Spins game that is captured in our demo video (see below).

Why we love Coywolf Cash

Like most players, we are big fans of Play’n Go slots. Coywolf Cash lives up to their high standards of features, mechanics, graphics, and visual goodness.

Slot lovers will love the fast pace of the game, which is especially fitting for a high volatility game like this.

The Pacific Northwest setting of the game is also a nice twist on the rapidly expanding slot “wolf genre.”

Other than the slightly confusing design of some of the symbols, our only note of caution is the music. It is exciting and uptempo, but starts to feel overpowering after a while.
